Moonstruck

Today is the 36th anniversary of the first manned moon landing and moonwalk. Neil A. Armstrong, Edwin (Buzz) Aldrin and Michael Collins were the crew of Apollo 11.

Neil Armstrong uttered the famous line, "That's one small step for man; one giant leap for mankind." He actually flubbed it.

I guess I can understand that he was a little awed by what was going on that day.

I'm just reading "Moondust", by Andrew Smith, in which the author tracks down and talks to the surviving Moonwalkers (9 out of 12), to try and find out what the whole thing meant, and how it affected them. It's really rather good. On the way home yesterday, I read about him talking to Aldrin - the day after Aldrin bopped that conspiracy theorist on the nose. Going to work this morning, I'll be reading about him visiting Armstrong.

I will have to look for that book. I love stuff about the early space programs.

It's a photo from Hubble. I must admit I don't remember what it is, though.
