Darfur Drawn by Children

Darfur through the eyes of its children. These pictures are immensely important and unbelievably tragic.

Nur, Age 9
Nur: This is my brother. He is hiding in Sudan. He is not happy.
Human Rights Watch: Why?
Nur: He wants to learn, to go to school, but he has nothing. Our school was burned.

Heartbreaking Heartbreaking

The word in Arabic is books.

God, whenever I hear about these things, it makes me want to go abroad and help.

So much horror and pain worldwide, it feels overwhelming. I support AI, Greenpeace, etc. but it never seems like enough. We need to get more people involved. There are so many wonderful, concerned, involved people on LiveJournal and there are other self-absorbed children that just don't get it. If we don't deal with these mounting global crises when they are abroad, they will wind up on our doorstep.

It does seem overwhelming but every now and then you hear about people like Marla Ruzicka, Wangari Maathai and others with courage and resolve who give me hope and inspiration.
