What We Found

A short list of what we found in our little house:

odd smells
mold
mildew
total destruction of den furniture and rugs
mold and mildew on bedding
indescribably disgusting refrigerator
live worms under stuff
ruined shoes
downed pecan tree in backyard
roof leaks in bedrooms
flower garden thriving with busy bees
wedding and most other pictures intact
frogs and lizards in good shape
lots of dragonflies in yard
happiness and relief to be there

Well, that's a relief!

That's still quite a lot of things to replace, though. How many people are out and about in your neighbourhood? Is it still pretty quiet?

Lots of relief! Our neighborhood is still very quiet and a lot less green. So many trees were blown down!

That's something, at least...

So, are you going to rebuild and stay? Is your insurance gonna take care of everything?

Re: ((HUGS))
Thanks for the hug! We are definitely planning to stay in our house. We have not had an adjuster come yet and see the house. Based on our policies - flood and homeowners - we are hopeful that all the damage will be covered.

I'm so glad you found some things okay! Especially pictures.
Are you leaving for Rita? We had planned on going home this weekend, the fact I can't has hit me really hard.

We are so lucky to have most of our things okay. We are not planning to leave yet. The latest on Rita still shows it hitting the central Texas coast. We'll hopefully know more by this evening.

I hope you get back to your house soon. Even though you've checked on it already, it still feels better to be there and not worrying about it from afar.

Sadly I won't be able to live there for months, or I won't get to live with Jim... one or the other lol.

Thanks! It was really heartening to finally see it all for ourselves. It's good to really know what we have to do now.

I have been thinking about you and the David! Tell him that I really liked the NOW from Baton Rouge with the Katrina victims if you get the chance. He was wonderful with the folks in the studio.

We fared fine with Rita. Lost power until last night at home but otherwise no water and minimal wind damage to the trees we had left.
