Wikipedia In The News

Fake information added to a Wikipedia entry on John Siegenthaler, Sr., linking him erroneously to the Kennedy assassinations, comes back to haunt the guy who posted it as a prank. He thought Wikipedia was a gag site. The incident calls into question the integrity of Wikipedia's entries.

I read a similar article on CNN.com. I've always been leery, not about the concept of contrubting to an encyclopedia, but to using that information in a vital way. While this instance was supposedly a joke that got out of hand, conspiracy theorists hold such to be the truth. So if someone with a poor grasp of a subject--or a sardonic sense of humor--contributes nonsense to an article, how would we tell the difference?

Of course, you once referred to me as a semi-Luddite, so maybe it's my tech-hating side showing through. ;^D

You are a charming mix of old-fashioned and newfangled.
