Keep Him Safe On His Journey

These days I regularly pray for the safety of Barack Obama. The train wreck, otherwise known as the McCain/Palin campaign, has stirred up the worst in some of their supporters. John McCain finally had to stick up for his opponent when a woman at one of his rallies said, "I have read about him. He's an Arab." McCain grabbed the microphone from her shaking his head in disagreement and said, "No, ma'am. He's a decent, family man, a citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues and that's what this campaign is all about." Now, McCain's defense is lame because Arabs are also decent, family-oriented citizens but at least he felt compelled to stop the woman from going on with her misinformed statement.

Meanwhile, Obama says, "I can take four more weeks of McCain's attacks but America can't take four more years of failed McCain\Bush look alike policies."

Um, yeah, that is a HORRIBLY awkward response from McCain! So is he suggesting that Arab-Americans can't be decent family men and citizens? It's not like the woman called Obama a terrorist. Although, to be fair, that's most likely what was implied by her comment, McCain's response is still very foot-in-mouth. Yikes.

I heard or read the perfect description of John McCain and his campaign, "20th century mentality fighting a 21st century battle." This week's debate didn't help change my impression that he's old and out of touch.
