Do You Fondue?

Juannie just told me that he's got all the fixings for fondue tonight! I love fondue and we haven't broken out the set in quite a while. My mom was a big fan of fondue when I was a kid and it was always a fun night with the family. I am all aflutter!

I used to have a fondue pot.. I got rid of it. We never used it. My husband doesn't like cheese and I never used it for anything else... it was reddish orange lol

My mom's was that scary 70s avocado green but we loved it nonetheless.

Now, now, young lady - watch out for excessive fluttering - it leads to all sorts of fondue-related accidents! Well known fact.

I've never done a fondue myself but we used to be invited over for dinner regularly in Cape Breton with a couple who loved fondues. I remember there was a cheese one and, even better, a chocolate dessert one once. Bits of strawberries and cake to dip. Yummmmmmmmmm...

I do own two unused fondue sets, though. I even have the fuel. They're for emergency power outages. During the big Ice Storm in Quebec, I remember reading that a woman kept herself and her neighbour fed during the 2 weeks on a pot of "stew" she kept bubbling on the fondue. She just kept adding everything that was melting in her freezer but every spice she could find.

That woman from Quebec really knew how to manage in an emergency. Although, I wonder if any stomach problems were caused by this "stew".

Not in the account I read - it was an interesting book full of anecdotes about surviving under emergency conditions during the storm. This woman's neighbour - whom she took into her house to look after - was also 80 years old. So they must be rather hardy in that part of Canada.

People keep sterno on hand here for hurricane season. My Grammy always had some handy during that time of year.

Re: Yummy!
It was oh so yummy. We just finished. The cheese mixture also included almonds and bacon.
