Book Shirk

I am having trouble getting into The War of the Saints by Jorge Amado. I do like it so far but I have avoided reading it all day. I even did laundry to postpone picking it up tonight.

I think that the ultra-religious aunt is bringing back a lot of my memories of Catholic school. It's also making me think about the current political climate in the US. So it's not much of an escape. My reading experience with this one is a lot like how I felt about The Kite Runner. It took me a long time to read that one because it was difficult to get through the violent scenes. Once I was done, though, it became my favorite book group selection.

(Don't worry phoenix_anew, I'll be done by Wednesday.)
