More Legs

On our evening walk in the brisk wind, Bess, Rocky and I passed by a father and son playing on the slide in the park near our house. The little boy was around three or four and when he spotted the dogs, he said to his dad, "Look at those Rottweilers." The man had his back to us. When he turned around and actually saw the dogs, he let out a very hearty laugh. The joy of his laughter got me giggling, too. We laughed together as I continued with our stroll and he kept playing with his son.

I was still smiling by the time we were heading for home. The father and son were now sitting on a bench. As we walked by the father, he started chuckling and I told him, "I have never had these two mistaken for Rottweilers before." We both started laughing really hard again. The guy asked, "What kind of dogs are they?" "Corgis," I replied. Then he told his son, "Those little dogs are Corgis, not Rotweillers." And the little boy said very seriously, "They just need more legs. Then they can be Rotweillers." That just set the two of us off one more time. I could hear the man laughing along with me all the way home.

Re: Too Cute.....
They like to think they're in charge all the time until food is involved. Then they are putty in our hands.

Hahahaha wow. Kids. Gotta love 'em.

You and Juannie don't have any, do you?

I feel bad for not knowing.
I don't think you do...

No kids, just our two short-legged poochers. :-)

I saw a baby Yorkie the other day. H and I were at the pet store looking at cute chinchillas when the lady came in with it, all wrapped up in a towel...it was so little and shivering! They had just picked it up and needed a crate.

I admit I am not usually fond of dogs - mostly because of the level of attention they require compared to cats - but it was SOOO CUTE!!

I love cats, too, but Juannie is allergic so dogs only for us. And my grandmother had a Yorkie named Penny. She was so tiny and adorable.

One of my dad's dogs just had four puppies last night. Am eagerly awaiting the pictures!

I hope he's not planning to keep them all though... he's got three dogs already. Who has seven dogs?!? I was joking that he'd be like a cat lady, only he'd be the dog man.

Ooooh puppies! What kind? Not that it really matters because I love all puppies.

German Shepherd.

Three black, one grey.
No word on whether they're girls or boys yet :)

I love German Shepherds. We had one, Greta, who lived in our neighborhood when I was little. She was the sweetest dog. Very patient and gentle with all the kids!

My dad's oldest and favourite dog, who is about 15 years old, has been in extremely poor health for a long time and probably won't make it through this winter. It seems appropriate that the puppies were born now, somehow...it's the cycle of birth and death.

He is like that as well - a huge dog but extremely sweet and gentle. But was always very aggressive when he sensed any potential danger to us as kids - strangers around, people coming too close to where my little sis was playing, etc.

I hope all is well for a while longer for your dad and the big guy.

Thanks :)

Will probably have some pics of him too if my dad emails me pics of the puppies... I'll have to make a dog post.

That is too cute! I had always thought corgis were a bit homely until I started watching Gardening by the Yard. His little Maggie is such a charmer I began re-thinking the entire breed lol.

Maggie is a cutie! My two would not make it as TV dogs because they'd never leave the crew alone. Pet me! Pet me! I am the center of the universe!

I love that line - I read it out to Jim! Kids that age are a hoot. I remember watching the Santa Claus parade and a little boy beside me on his dad's shoulders started yelling: "Big Bird! It's Big Bird." And as the man in the bird suit passed, the kid said thoughtfully, "Hmmmmmm, Big Bird ain't that big." The whole line of people laughed.

My niece is four and she comes up with good lines all the time-most of the time they are directed at her nine-year old brother. She's way too quick for him.
