I am very disturbed by this. Is another insipid remake of beloved music from my youth really necessary?

I suppose it could be viewed as devolution in action...
Another 20 years, and version 3 will be composed of toddlers.

Love the utter cuteness of the teen DEVOnites!

I hear that toddlers develop faster if they listen to Mozart, The Cramps, and are baptized by The Reverend Horton Heat.

Hahaha! I can hope to be so maladroit with the technology at 60 that I won't be exposed to the horror.

West End Girls vs Dev2.0

Egads. I think Dev2.0 fucked with my head ---- and you have to admit, I listen to some, uh, screwed up stuff! I don't do drugs, but I'm convinced I dropped acid before heading over to their webpage. ::shudder:: I'm still frightened and afraid.

Memory Lane In high school, late 70s, another boy, Jon, and I --- well, the only thing we had in common besides being virtual outcasts from coolness was, uh, just that! Oh yeah, and our love of Devo. Jon made Devo hats; we wore them around for a few days carrying our 70s boom box (re: HUGE) and doing DEVO routines until, well, some upperclassman wearing an Izod Lacoste shirt "relieved us" of said hats AND boom box. Who knew that plastic/electronic shattered so when dropped from a second story?

Can you believe this? A time when we actually had to convince people that Devo from Akron was Da Bomb?!?! ::sigh::

Okay, onto a concern of mine.

My beloved Pet Shop Boys have been covered BY GIRLS!

::runs around in circles screaming!!!!::

I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I almost posted about it in my journal, but figured nobody would give a flip. But your Devo post is on-topic with this, shall we say.

Give it a listen:

....more stuff at their website:

I'm just not sure if I like creatures with breasts & vaginas singing Pet Shop Boys songs ---- just like I'm sure I don't like 12-year-olds covering Devo.

What do you think?

Color me curious.

Re: West End Girls vs Dev2.0
Sorry so slow to respond. LJ was acting the fool last night and some of this morning.

I totally agree with you. Girls singing Petshop Boys songs is wrong. (And I want to know why they even bothered with the blonde in the video for West End Girls - she did nothing. The weird brunette got all the screen time.) And little kids just aren't jaded enough to get the meaning of Devo songs.

Loved your memory lane story! Those Izod worms would've gotten a round of kicks in the jimmies from me for interrupting great music. It's probably a good thing I went to an all-girls school!

Hey, just spotted this over at Coop's blog.

(Coop as in "artist who is an awesome illustrator". Google him.)

You know, he has a point....

....but it is still all wrong. Very wrong.

"...aim your cruise missiles at the soft underbelly of kid-dom..." This is an awesome phrase.

And yeah, if I had kids, I would prefer to listen to remade classics from my youth with them than some Barney-fied tripe geared for 12-year olds. But there would always be a disturbance in the force because of it.
