Deep Throat?

W. Mark Felt, was second-in-command of the FBI in the early 70s, and he has revealed that he was Deep Throat in an article for Vanity Fair. As the key source for Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein during their Watergate investigation for The Washington Post, Deep Throat's information was critical. Their investigation and the resulting controversy culminated in the resignation of President Richard Nixon in 1974.

Felt, now 91, was always among those speculated to have been Deep Throat. He denied being Deep Throat in 1999. He has come out with the information now at the urging of his family. Woodward and Bernstein will neither confirm nor deny Felt's claim. They still plan to reveal their source's identity after s/he dies.

Walt Whitman

Today is the birthday of one of my favorite poets, Walt Whitman. And here are two of my favorite poems by him.

Unfolded Out of the Folds.

A man is a great thing upon the earth, and through eternity—but every jot
of the greatness of man is unfolded out of woman,
First the man is shaped in the woman, he can then be shaped in himself.

To me, every hour of the light and dark is a miracle,
Every cubic inch of space is a miracle,
Every square yard of the surface of the earth is spread with the same,
Every foot of the interior swarms with the same;
Every spear of grass—the frames, limbs, organs, of men and women, and all that
concerns them,
All these to me are unspeakably perfect miracles.

To me the sea is a continual miracle;
The fishes that swim—the rocks—the motion of the waves—the ships, with men
in them,
What stranger miracles are there?
