Jingle, Jangle, Jingle... Mr. Bingle

Inspired by mysticknyght's Mr. Bingle post.

When I was little, Mr. Bingle was the Christmas mascot for a local department store, Maison Blanche. Mr. Bingle's initials are the same as the store's, MB, and his name rhymes with Kris Kringle. His plush toys and image were displayed all over the stores. At the main store on Canal Street in downtown New Orleans, a huge Mr. Bingle was on the front of the store. He was very cute with his white squishy body, red bow, ice cream cone hat and holly-leaf wings.

I loved when Mr. Bingle would start popping up on the store's afternoon commercials in November and December because that meant Christmas was coming! (MB, as the locals called it, got bought out in 1990s by another Louisiana chain. Now Mr. Bingle is the holiday mascot for a non-local department store, Dillard's.)

Mr. Bingle at Celebration In The Oaks, City Park, New Orleans.

Image from a Christmas card I received from my brother and sister-in-law, Dale & Renee. City Park is selling them to feature Mr. Bingle's addition to their annual light display.

**edit** Renee just informed me that she took the wonderful picture and made the card herself. When I asked where she got the card she said, "At City Park!" I thought she bought the card there. I am impressed!

"Merry Christmas-and Laissez les bon temps rouler!"

New Orleans Night Before Christmas 2005

'Twas the night before Christmas and in the Faubourg
At the edge of the crescent, no creature stirred.
Under the shroud-like blue plastic from FEMA
That flapped in the wind in the wake of Katrina,
Nothing was hung by the chimneys with care
Since chimneys and roofs were no longer there.
The houses, abandoned for trailers or Texas,
Were circled with watermarks, branded with Xs,
And in them no sugarplums danced in kids' heads,
For no little children slept snug in their beds
On this night before Christmas in Faubourg-St John
Where time had stopped dead, while the world carried on.

Snagged from neworleans. This made me teary-eyed.
