Astronomical News

Two big stories in the news today...

A mountain-sized asteroid passed close to the Earth. At it's closest point to us, it was 1.1 times the distance of the Earth to our moon. Scientists estimate that the asteroid, known as 2004 XP14, will have 10 more close encounters with Earth over this century, none of which will pose a threat.

Cracked foam found on the Space Shuttle Discovery may delay the launch yet again. Engineers were planning for a Fourth of July launch but are concerned about the crack and a fallen piece of foam found on the ground near the Shuttle.
