Police Concert Recap

Juannie and I went to The Police concert in the New Orleans Arena last night. My brothers, Dale and Dave, and my sisters-in-law, Renee and Jennifer were also there. We hung out before and after the concert.

Thoughts and observations during the concert...

-How many times did I hear all of these songs on the radio and MTV: Roxanne, De Do Do Do De Da Da Da, Don't Stand So Close To Me, Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic, Every Breath You Take, Wrapped Around Your Finger, Synchronicity II, Invisible Sun, King of Pain?

-Every person in this building knows the words to every song we are hearing by heart and everyone is singing along at the top of their lungs. Sting said at one point, "You certainly are in fine voice tonight." (He probably says that to all the crowds they play to but he was telling us the truth.)

-Sting's ass is still hot even at age 55. (All that yoga continues to pay off for him.)

-Andy Summers sounds like he's still a young guy on the guitar but the closeups of his hands on the big screens give away his age of 65.

-I still like Stewart Copeland's goofy cuteness. (He was always my favorite because I once had a thing for drummers. Now I have a thing for Juannie.)

-Lots of people have small children with them and the kids are dancing and loving the music as much as the older folk.

-When are they going to play Tea In The Sahara and Walking In Your Footsteps? (They played Walking In Your Footsteps but not Tea In The Sahara.)

-I feel like I am in a time warp and am reliving some of my best moments of the 80's.

-I'm glad I gave Juannie these tickets for his 40th birthday.

After the concert, we all met some friends at Mimi's and danced to DJ Soul Sister until the wee hours.

Today, I am tired but in a buoyant mood thanks to all of the great music I heard during and after the concert.

Smile For A While And Let's Be Jolly

One morning while I was getting ready for work, the song Rose Garden popped into my head. (Lyrics include: I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden.) I loved this song when I was a youngster but I haven't heard it in years. I bought a couple different versions tonight on iTunes including the original by Lynn Anderson and a remake by k.d. lang. Then I decided to look for the song on YouTube.

I remember seeing Lynn Anderson doing the performance in this video in that yellow dress. I thought she was the cat's pajamas when I was 6 or 7. This is worth checking out for the audience's dance moves and the fashion circa 1973.

Then I found this lip synch version of it by Daphne Dragee. Reminds me very much of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert which is one of my favorite movies. Good for a laugh!
