Jittery As June Approaches

This week has been a rollercoaster of emotion for me. I feel very scattered and overwhelmed at times and then I am hopeful and confident a few minutes later. We are now less than a month away from the start of the 2006 hurricane season and I know that is playing a big part in my moodiness.

A mock hurricane advisory got out to the local press on Friday and scared the crap out of the people who heard the announcements. I am glad that I did not know about this until after the fact.

When I was about 8 or 9 we had this huge storm come through Kansas. It was the same one that produced and F5 tornado in Andover, but in Valley Center (where I live) we just got horrible straigh-line winds that went over 100 mph. For years afterwards I had so much anxiety whenever there was a hint of a tornado warning. Looking back I realize it was probably a touch of post traumatic stress disorder that was making me so skittish. So to a certain degree I can understand how you feel.

These days if people aren't talking about Katrina then we're talking about the 2006 season - hurricane and Saints. I do think most people affected by Katrina have PTSD to some degree, myself included.
