Dinner & A Movie

Dinner tonight was a favorite that Juannie and I call snack plate. We had Banon, Cambozola (gorgonzola/camembert hybrid) and Manouri cheeses with assorted pickles, olives, green beans, marinated oven-dried tomatoes, marinated shrimp, Tabasco jalapeno pepper jelly, bread and mini-toasts. We watched Shaun Of The Dead while dining.

That looks delicious! I love those tiny toasts.

Shrimp though...I don't know, I could never get into shrimp. Maybe if they were breaded I could handle them, but they just look too *alive* otherwise.

You should eat with my Chinese friends sometime.

Usually, as part of their dinner, they'll bring out a HUGE plate of prawns --- ginormous prawns.

Then, with their chopsticks, they will pick one up and, with a single, one-handed twist, pop the head off which drops onto the plate. Everything else goes *pop* in the mouth, and moments later, out comes the shell.

Me? Retard white American boi? I have to sit there and peel it with my hands while all the hot asian girls mock me.

Tasty, but sad all-in-all. ;-)

I am chopstick-impaired. I just can't get it all worked out so I can pick up anything with them. It amazes me that people can pick up even a single pea with them.

I was a little leery of the shrimp myself but they were very tasty. And it's not snack plate without tiny toasts!

Best part of that plan is watching SHAUN OF THE DEAD --- if you see a gross part just "burp" it back up and enjoy it again!

Juannie always picks out new and interesting stuff for us to try for snack plate. The shrimp and the Manouri cheese were tonight's experiments. But alas no rehash of dinner since we've seen the movie so many times.

Re: Yummmmmmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
We usually do a snack plate night when guests stay with us. It's an easy meal and it's fun. It gives everyone a chance to visit while trying new things.

What a fun idea! It adds a bit of fancy to a meal.. I may have to try that sometime. Not sure I'd watch a zombie movie with it though. :) Even a particularly hilarious one.

It's like a little party on the nights we do snack plate even if it's just the two of us. Juannie likes to get creative with his plating and presentation, too, using different platters and serving dishes. Thankfully, we've seen Shaun so many times that the gruesome parts don't phase me anymore.

Yummers. My father would call that antipasto. For Christmas Eve we would have pickled items, cheeses and salami sliced thin on a plate and served with crusty bread - all downed with wine.

Cambozola - that sounds like the name of the guy you make loan payments to ;0

We started with this tradition around the holidays and then we expanded it to be something we did whenever we wanted a diverting dining experience. It makes the nights we have snack plate feel like our own little celebration.

No fair! You guys make neat things for dinner. We always have spaghetti or meatloaf; something traditional every time.

Juannie's the creative culinarian in this house. I can't take any credit for our interesting menu choices. But I do enjoy them! :-)

Yummy, yum...that looks fantastic. The only thing I would add would be a glass or two of wine :=)

We usually have wine (Conundrum or a Pinot Grigio) or champagne (Veuve Cliquot) on snack plate nights but last evening I had a margarita and Juannie went with beer.
