Who Is The Patron Saint of Patience?

Since I turned forty last August, I confronted one of my worst fears which was a devastating hurricane. And now as I approach my forty-first birthday, I am now dealing with something else that fills me with dread: living in a house while it is being renovated.

When we were shopping for our first home, everyone kept suggesting that we buy "a fixer-upper" and the idea of that just struck me with terror. I know my personal limitations and a fixer-upper is something I just didn't want to have to deal with. Life is stressful enough without purposely adding that ongoing upheaval to my day-to-day experience.

Well, thanks to Katrina, I will now be living another of my nightmares starting on Monday when the contractor begins working on our house. Lord give me strength and patience for the next 10-12 weeks!

Good luck - perhaps you can make some positive changes to the house - like built in shelves or something?

Oh, and keep your paws off the hired help!

HH: Gee, Miss Silver. This lemonade sure does taste like Vodka.
SD: Shut up and drink, boy.

Hahahahaha! Our contractor has neither a pompadour nor a pencil tucked behind his ear so I think I am safe.

You survived Katrina, and you'll survive this!

The renovation is certain to be at least more pleasant than the initial cleanup post-storm. And the house doesn't smell like a funked-up refrigerator anymore so there's plenty to be thankful for. And I'll have a blender for lots of margaritas to get me through the stress.

I have never, in 44 years, smelled anything like our fridge and freezer. And I have a stain on my butcher block where I had a potato that melted.

*stifling hysterical gasping laughter because I like you so much and hope that is is actually so*

I know it's goofy but I cannot allow myself to even ponder that it may go on longer than that right now. (I am launching into a tequonic in a little while to stifle any thoughts of the work possibly lingering into 2007. Juannie is giving them a whirl for the first time tonight!)

I think it's actually Saint Joseph the Patient.
Good luck with the home renovations.

I need to do a shrine to St. Joseph then. Thanks!
