Saints 23 - Falcons 3 & New Orleans #1

Monday was a great night for the city of New Orleans. The fact that the Superdome was game ready less than 13 months after the extensive damage it suffered during Katrina is an incredible accomplishment. And what happened in the Dome on Monday night was a dream come true for Saints fans. I was proud of my city and proud of my team. The Dome looked fantastic and the Saints played like a team on a mission. The whole town continues to be in a great mood because of how everything went.

Some pre-game pictures below. I didn't take any during the game because I knew it would be way too rowdy for camera safety when the crowd went wild as the first small group of Saints players walked on the field just to warm up. Fans started howling, clapping, jumping up and down, twirling their towels, waving their signs and the popcorn started flying.

I knocked a beer out of the hand of the guy behind me with my towel dubbed "The Terrible Towel" after a catch by my Saints boyfriend, Marques Colston. Not long after that my brother, Dave, accidentally smacked me on the boob during a frenzy of hand slapping over another good play. Things were very crazy all night. I was very hoarse yesterday from all the yelling and screaming I did.

The Saints and the fans were on fire Monday night. It was the best football game ever.

Oh! U2 and Green Day were pretty good, too.

That is so wonderful. I was impressed that the national media really played up the return of the Saints. The stories I read, heard and saw all indicated that New Orleans Is On the Way Back, and I couldn't be happier. I hope this gives a boost to everyone in NOLA and everyone elsewhere who had doubts that New Orleans would ever be the same again.

The restoration of the Dome is just one step of many in the right direction. But it is an important milestone and a true marvel that it was done so quickly given the amount of damage.

The city has a decent slate of conventions through the end of the year and several cruise ships are returning to the port in the next few months. Another big event is the 4-day international WWII conference being held at the National WWII Museum. Slowly things are coming around on the tourism front. Let's hope this momentum causes a surge into other aspects of the region's recovery.

Thanks! It was an incredible night made even better that we beat the much-hated Falcons on Monday Night Football-where we have a dreadful record.
