Something Cranky This Way Comes...

ME!

It's Monday and I am not a happy camper today. I was not feeling too chipper when I arrived at the office this morning. My mood completely disintegrated as I listened to a woman in the office talk about feeling so sorry for the hurricane victims in Florida in one conversation. And then in another conversation just a few minutes later, she says that the reason all the hurricanes stayed away from New Orleans is because there are more Catholics here. I held my tongue but wanted to say, "All the Catholics sure didn't keep Betsy away from New Orleans in 1965 you sanctimonious dope!"

...and a close call with Audrey in 1957. Maybe the glancing blow was because there weren't enough Catholics to steer the storm completely away.

I hate it when people equate weather with divine intervention/divine punishment. Weather does what weather does, and it's not because people displease God or gain his favor. A tornado outbreak here in 1998 leveled at least three churches--one of which was in the middle of its Wednesday services--and it was only because the churches happened to be in the way. No more, no less. Every office needs a weather fan to defuse these silly notions.

This is a hopeless case. The same lady says novenas for the LSU Tigers each week so they'll win. Really!

Sweet mother of Stephen Hawking. This is why I use caution around overly religious types. One day you should say something like, "(NAME), You won't believe what I just did. I praised Allah to make (VISITING TEAM) win this week!"

Now sit back and watch the fun!
