Orb-Weaver

I've always known these lovely ladies as Banana Spiders. The males are very small and nondescript compared to their more sizable and colorful mates. The official name for them is golden silk orb-weaver. We made friends with many of them on our trip to Red Creek in Mississippi. This was the largest of the bevy of beauties we encountered.

You would not have been happy in Red Creek. There were literally hundreds of these spiders in webs everywhere we looked. Luckily, they like to be high up in trees so I wasn't worried about walking into their webs. It was amazing to see so many of them but creepy, too.
