My Poppy

My father, called Poppy by my family, is having surgery later today. After his stomach infection and dehydration last month, he has been having circulatory problems in his left foot. After much testing, the doctors determined he had veins collapse from being severely dehydrated and he also has blockage. So the surgery today will bypass these problem areas.

Poppy is a retired pharmacist so he takes all this in stride. He is most thrilled about the fact that he will be the recipient of cadaver veins. He has no veins of his own to donate to the cause since he had a quad bypass two years ago. He has creeped all of us out with his constant boyish glee in sharing this detail with people we know.

Best wishes for your father...I hope he has as painless a surgery as possible and a speedy recovery.

Total empathy to you. My parents have had some medical issues lately, too, and I always get a momentary feeling of petrified helplessness--a la "My mommy's invincible! She's always stronger than I am!"

I hope all goes well for your dad. Keep us posted. :)

Attitude is (well, almost) everything in recovering well from surgery - it's good to hear your daddio so sensible and brave.

Good luck to him!
