Legal Shenanigans Part 1

A high schooler in from Wisconsin has sued his school district because he was assigned homework to be completed during his summer vacation.

"...he was given three assignments last summer in preparation for an accelerated precalculus class that began last autumn. Since he had a summer job as a camp counselor, he could not get all the work done."

I luckily never had summer assignments in all my years of school but I always pitied my friends that had summer reading lists. It was bad enough reading Madame Bovary, Tess of The D'Urbervilles and Les Miserables during the school year. I would have been very resentful if I had to devote summer reading time to those books when I could have been reading tawdry stuff like The Other Side of Midnight and Princess Daisy.

My mother burned my copy of the other side of midnight. I didn't find out how it ended until two years later. It's the first book I bought when I moved out at 18.
I never had summer homework.

A lady I babysat for when I was 13-14 had a big library of Sidney Sheldon, Judith Krantz, etc. She let me borrow whatever I wanted. She was very prim and proper so I was surprised that she let me read such racy books at that age. Of course, I did not complain.

The reading part of a summer reading list wouldn't bother me, but being told what books I had to read would. If that makes sense...

That's quite possibly the most ridiculous lawsuit I've heard about recently. Come on, it's high school, suck it up already. Daddy's not going to be around to sue for you when you fail your final cause you were out partying too much.

And people wonder why tech jobs are being outsourced...

And what summer camp is in session for every single day of the summer? I find it hard to buy that excuse for not getting the work done.

I read Wifey. That was one of the hot titles everyone shared in eighth grade. My parents never worried about what I read. They were too busy trying to figure out what my three brothers were plotting to worry about sweet, well-behaved little ole me. ;-0
